Burlesque, an art form known for its flamboyant performances and vibrant displays, has been significantly influenced by the rich and diverse artistry of Latine music, movement, and visual culture. The Burlesque Hall of Fame’s new exhibition, Let’s Get Loud!, highlights the profound impact of Latine creativity on burlesque throughout history. Through October 20th, 2024, visitors to The Burlesque Hall of Fame in Las Vegas, NV, will have the opportunity to explore the vibrant fusion of Latin influences within the art form.
“Latine culture has been integral to the development of modern burlesque,” says Emmie Pappa Eddy, PhD candidate in folklore and musicology at Indiana University, Bloomington, and lead researcher on the exhibition. “From music to movement and costume, burlesque performance as we enjoy it today is indebted to the innovations and creativity of innumerable Latine artists from diverse backgrounds and experiences.”
Join us as we celebrate the colorful tapestry of Latine influence woven into the fabric of burlesque history. Let’s Get Loud! promises to be an exhilarating journey into the heart of a cultural exchange that continues to inspire and captivate audiences around the world.
As a special highlight, a guided tour of the museum in Spanish will be offered on April 21st at 3:00 PM by exhibit co-curator Bella Sin, providing an immersive experience for Spanish-speaking audiences.
Let’s Get Loud! The Heritage of Latin Burlesque will be on display at the Burlesque Hall of Fame through October 20, 2024, and is included in the cost of admission.
