Jennie Lee founded the Exotic Dancers League in 1955 to help improve the working conditions of burlesque dancers. To get the attention of reporters and highlight the issues dancers faced — and to have some fun — she organized softball games and bowling tournaments to invite the press to, calling the EDL’s team the Barecats.
