- [Help us bring our next act to the stage](https://burlesquehall.com/help-us-bring-our-next-act-to-the-stage/): It was sad to close the museum in July, and even sadder to vacate our space over the last 6 weeks. We entered 2025 hopeful that this was the year we’d finally catch up from the huge hits we took during the pandemic, and instead… But we’re proud of the work we’ve accomplished, both in and out of that space, and intend to keep doing that work in new ways. Every act comes to an end, but there’s always another act waiting in the wings! We have lots in the works for our next act. Here’s a quick tease of […]

- [We Are Closing on July 20, 2025](https://burlesquehall.com/bhof-museum-closing-on-july-20-2025/): After much discussion, the board and leadership at BHoF have decided to indefinitely suspend the museum’s operation, effective July 20, 2025. While the museum generates revenue, it generally costs more to operate than it earns, and we have relied on the Weekender to make up the difference. But the Weekender has still not returned to pre-pandemic numbers and Trump administration policies make it unlikely that it will for some while. Additionally, we are still recovering from the effects of the pandemic, and these further financial impacts have created a storm that we cannot weather. Recent economic and political events have […]

- [Corinne, "Queen of the Stage"](https://burlesquehall.com/corinne-queen-of-the-stage/): You know the story: a child performer exploited by her demanding and exploitative mother to perform all over the country. The grueling road life leaving little time for basic schooling and attracting the attention of child welfare agents. The drive to ever-greater heights of fame and fortune at the expense of a childhood. No, not Gypsy Rose Lee. We’re talking about Corinne, the child star who rose to become one of the most famous performers in the United States before retiring from the stage before Gypsy Rose Lee was even born. The Burlesque Hall of Fame recently acquired a late 19th century […]

- [Museum Closure Update](https://burlesquehall.com/museum-closure-update/): We are sorry to announce that the museum is still closed following the rooftop fire in our building on July 20th. Construction is taking far longer than we had initially estimated, and will continue for at least the next two-three weeks. After removal of the contaminated drywall, flooring, ceiling tiles, and other material, the space was thoroughly dried using heated blowers, and then the remaining structure was treated to prevent the future growth of mold or bacteria. After testing, it was determined that the entire space needs to be treated to remove soot and other particulate contaminants, which involves surface […]

I have to start with our staff, for whom keeping the museum running this year has been a daily struggle, even without the doors being open. - [#MuseumAtHome: Burlesque Arrests](https://burlesquehall.com/museumathome-burlesque-arrests/): From its earliest arrival on US shores, burlesque has posed a challenge to local authorities charged with upholding local standards of “decency”. Whether it was women wearing men’s clothing (which was against the law in many municipalities until well into the 20th century) or women wearing not enough clothing (or none at all!), burlesque often gave community leaders something to wring their hands over. In this #MuseumAtHome video, BHoF program coordinator Buttercup details some of the many run-ins with the law experienced by burlesque performers from the 1860s to today — and how performers used these arrests as opportunities to […]

Burlesque and minstrelsy were closely related in the late 19th century, and many elements of the minstrel show became part of burlesque’s “bag of tricks”. Understanding this difficult history is essential to address and eliminate the painful legacy that has stuck with us down to today.

- [Use of Artificial Intelligence Policy](https://burlesquehall.com/about/core-documents/use-of-artificial-intelligence-policy/): The rise of “Artificial Intelligence” (AI) technology in computing presents a transformation in technology similar to the rise of social media, the Internet, possibly even personal computing itself. The Burlesque Hall of Fame (BHoF) recognizes that the potential benefits and new tools made possible by AI may be offset by a range of new harms, some inherent to the technology itself (e.g. escalating power and water usage) and some by the practices of companies in the fields (e.g. the illegal use of copyrighted works for AI training). While avoiding all AI use entirely is not feasible given the way AI […]
